A few weeks ago I wandered across your blog and have been reading along quietly. I decided I could write my opening comment. Im not sure what to write except that I have enjoyed reading it. Nice site. I shall carry on coming back to this site in the future. I have also grabbed the RSS feed to get any updates.

If you want to see a reader's feedback :) , I rate this article for four from five. Detailed info, but I have to go to that damn yahoo to find the missed pieces. Thanks, anyway!
p.s. Year One is already on the Internet and you can watch it for free.

Janz, you said:

"But which large org’s with many service / product lines have the guts to actually open it up to their customers to *really* interact with them? It’s a scary step. But it is time."

I believe it is time. There's not enough value being served in these vehicles yet they have the potential to deliver. If organizations don't start re-thinking their "micro strategies" than we will have a full blown commodity on our hands and the industry will move into more of a production mindset.

That's just an opinion.

Thanks for the comments.

Microsites with a shelf life & purpose have a place certainly.

When they're used to bypass a larger communication strategy is when I question their merit. A lot of times microsites seem to be an easy out for not updating and improving the microsite owner's larger monolithic web site.

Overall user experience would benefit from better structure on the larger site that will be present and relevant for many many years at a time, than a flash in the pan content byte that is timely relevant.

wow this is timely. am contstantly being told by my significant other that the microsite should die... but as to your point: they do have a use. But which large org's with many service / product lines have the guts to actually open it up to their customers to *really* interact with them? It's a scary step. But it is time.
