COMMUNITIES
Corona’s New Facebook Campaign Puts Your Face in Times Square
Do you dream of seeing your face on the big screen? If so, Coronas new campaign may be a good place for you to start. Corona is targeting young adults with their new Corona Light campaign and using Facebook as the main channel. After users “Like” the Corona page, they are able to access an app that allows them to upload a photo of themselves. This photo will then be used in a Times Square billboard the brand is creating, and will be up from November 8th until December 6th. Individual photos will be highlighted and because people love to see themselves, they are expecting this campaign to create lots of buzz and to get tons more fans on the Facebook page.
TOOLS & TECHNOLOGIES
Facebook rolls out new security tools, talks safety
Facebook has announced their newest feature, and it’s all about privacy. The site is now allowing users to receive one-time-use passwords, for times when they are logging on to unsecure computers where their passwords may be compromised. All that is required is that users send a text to a number that will respond back with the temporary password, and will expire in 20 minutes. This new feature will also alert users when they are logged into two computers. For example, if you are at a friend’s house and forget to log off, Facebook will now tell you. This article also discusses other safety issues that Facebook is trying to address, including age limits for the site and cyber bullying.
MEASUREMENT
Klout Now Measures Your Influence on Facebook
Klout, a social analytics tool known for their ability to track Twitter influence, has now launched a version of their product for Facebook. Klout currently has the ability to track your influence on Twitter (through tweets, retweets, mentions, etc.) and produce a score for your total influence. They are now trying to bring that ability over to Facebook and will give Facebook users a score based on things such as Likes, posts, post comments and others.
INFLUENCERS
Evan Williams: “Twitter Will Get to a Billion Members”
Twitter co-founders Biz Stone and Evan Williams were together this week in San Francisco discussing the influence of their web creation. The rollout of their new design was discussed, as well as Twitters part in social activism. “[Biz Stone] said it was “absurd” not to understand that Twitter and social media are complementary to that type of activism because of the ability to facilitate the fast exchange of information.” Twitter has been a part of many social activism acts in countries all over the world and Stone and Williams argued that the ability to have a central means of activism is through Twitter. They also discussed the prospect of reaching a billion users, and made sure to mention that these would not be the same billion who are eventually going to join Facebook, in order to make sure these sites stand apart.
PARTNERSHIPS
NASA Teams with Gowalla on Moon Rock Scavenger Hunt
One small step for location based services, one giant leap for government agencies. NASA and Gowalla have announced a partnership that will allow Gowalla users to gain NASA-related rewards on the site. Some of the rewards will include moon rocks, a spaceship, space suit and other space related gear. Once a user collects enough of these rewards, they will be awarded a NASA pin on their Gowalla passports. But there is more to this partnership than digital rewards. The first 100 users to collect three digital rewards, will be awarded a tangible prize of a special edition map.
FUN STUFF
Macy’s ‘magic mirror’ lets shoppers don virtual clothes
The future of shopping has arrived. Macy’s is implementing a device that allows users to virtually try on clothing, send the photo to Facebook, get their friends opinions, all before even seeing the outfit in real life. Once a shopper steps into the dressing room, a touch screen on the mirror greets them and allows them to see images of themselves with new clothing on.
