Dave Robertson is a qualitative researcher, information architect, and interface designer who tries to make information easy to find and functionality easy to use. His mantra is “research, design, test” – research the needs of the customer, design a suitable solution, and test to make sure the solution is usable and useful.

Dave recently returned Critical Mass to lead the Insight & Planning department. Prior to returning to Critical Mass, he was Principal Usability Engineer for Symantec Corporation, re-designing the interface for the DeepSight Early Warning Service. As Director of Information Architecture, he guided in the early development of customer-in methodologies including design personas, task analysis, and ethnographic research at Critical Mass. He has worked on web site redesigns for Kaiser Permanente, Dell Computers, Albertsons, Mercedes Benz and NASA.

His expertise includes end-user research and requirements gathering, interaction design for web applications and usability evaluation and testing. His professional interests include collaborative interface design, agile software methodologies, and “guerrilla” consumer research. Dave is also recognized as a skilled facilitator, presenter and educator. He maintains relationships in the educational community through Mount Royal College in Calgary, Alberta and Capilano College in Vancouver, British Columbia.
