Matthew Milan

Director of Insight and Planning, Critical Mass Toronto

As Director of Insight and Planning with Critical Mass in Toronto, Canada, Matthew leads a team of account planners, information architects, design researchers and web analytics specialists who collectively mold business strategy, design thinking and customer research into all types of cutting edge digital experiences. His background includes stints in digital agencies, software startups and design consulting. He can sling code if needed, but would much rather ask people what they’re carrying in their backpack.

Matthew has a Masters degree in Information Architecture and when he’s not trying to reframe experience designers as strategy wonks, he moonlights as a course director at York University in Toronto lecturing on web mapping and social software. He writes on the Critical Mass blog, Experience Matters, as well as his own blog, Plating the Bird. When he’s not dreaming up new methods for generating insight he spends time with his wife and young daughter. He terrorizes the Twittersphere from his home in Toronto.
