Their integration with Facebook will allow users to sign into Facebook Connect to see who else is using WHERE and get recommendations from them. This app will not only make it easier for users to find out what locations are good in their area, but it will be a more personal experience with the Facebook, Bump and location features.

HP’s Social Computing Research group has recently released results from a research project surrounding what makes Twitters trending topics. Turns out, it’s probably not what you think. Rather than focusing on who is tweeting and how often, the algorithm focuses more on the specific subject and reach of the tweet. The researchers analyzed 16.32 million tweets on 3,361 different trending topics between September and October 2010.

With the big game behind us, it seems that the part about it that no one can stop talking about is the commercials. While there is always plenty of buzz about the ads, it seems that social media has helped keep the buzz going even longer this year. Many experts are claiming that this years ads were some of the most talked about in history due to platforms like Twitter and Facebook. Many of the brands that advertised this year have made the realization that if you can draw in your fans to the brands communities, it will better serve the brand in the long run. While Super Bowl ads serve different purposes for different brands, it is necessary for all of them to keep their fans active and social media is the perfect forum to do so.

Getting retweeted is always exciting. So naturally, plenty of users want to thank that great person who retweeted them. But wait! That might not be the best way to go about handling the situation. In fact, saying thank you for a retweet might put some of your other followers off. People might find it an act of immodesty and that’s not what you want your followers to think, now is it? Instead, this opinion article suggests sending a DM in order to thank people.

The cards come with multiple themes, for birthdays, holidays, and oh yes, Valentines Day, which is right around the corner. They also offer the opportunity for users to pay for service to receive more specific reports. ReSearch.ly, which is powered by PeopleBrowsr, is basically just a high tech Twitter search that allows users to narrow down searches by keyword, demographic, location, sentiment and community.

The Internet Makes it More Likely You Will Be Social, Not Less
When the Internet became the huge deal that it is today, and people began having Internet connections in every room of their houses, many worried that it would lead to the end of in-person socialization, as we knew it.  People feared that social interactions would be limited to those that could be held over a computer and a stable Internet connection. However, recent research proves that those who use the Internet are more likely to participate in social events than those who do not use the Internet.

According to the article, “use of the Internet in general, and social media in particular, has become the lubricant for chatter and outreach for all kinds of groups ranging from spiritual communities to professional societies to ad hoc fan clubs.”  In other words, the Internet encourages more social behaviors from users.

Hipster is location-based Q&A – call it Quora for where you are
There has been tons of buzz about an up and coming network called Hipster. But it’s difficult to buzz about a site that refuses to disclose what it is all about, which is exactly what Hipster has done. The site has not launched yet, and no one knows exactly what it will do which leaves tons of room for speculation. Many are claiming that the site will be a location-based Q&A, similar to Quora, but with location capabilities. Users will be able to log their location, and ask questions about places around them. It sounds like an interesting idea (if that’s really what the site will be like) but the site Loqly might have already accomplished this. Check out the video in this article to find out more about Loqly and the potentials for Hipster.

Klout Gets $8.5M to Create the Page Rank of the Social Web
Measuring social media influence is a tricky task and there are plenty of start-ups out there who are willing to help. But Klout, one of the upcoming leaders in the social measurement field, has just pulled in front of the pack by receiving $8.5 million from Kleiner Perkins Caulfield Byers. They have received this funding in hopes that they will be able to come up with a page ranking of the social web.
